High Performance Thinking Skills Reviewed here by the UK Chartered Intitute of Marketing |
Stephen Reid invites us to expand our minds, in a series of powerful and enlightening exercises. Whilst many guides on lateral thinking can be flabby or overly academic, this book shows without fuss how the majority of us are not using our minds to their full capabilities. By implementing some fairly simple new ways of seeing things, we can increase creativity, improve logical reasoning and make more effective decisions.
Reid explores some useful new territories: generalisations can be a good thing; two logical people can disagree; sometimes it’s best not to choose; saying ‘I don’t know’ can be more of a help than a hindrance. Acknowledging his debt to Tony Buzan’s Mind Maps, Reid expands these frontiers to address tough decision making and the value of using ‘bubble thinking’ – being able to hold two contradictory positions in your mind, whilst still remaining able to make a managerial decision at the end of it.
Inspiring for business leaders and useful when away from the office too, this is a meaty but accessible book for anyone wanting to broaden (and deepen) their horizons. | Page updated 26th Nov 2006
